Job summary

Fluor Corp is seeking a seasoned Rock Mechanics Engineer to lead geotechnical engineering efforts for mining and civil infrastructure projects in Canada. The role involves technical leadership, mentoring junior engineers, and managing projects with a focus on rock mass classification, slope stability, and instrumentation-based monitoring.

The ideal candidate holds a P.Eng. designation in Ontario or another province, has at least 10 years in mining or rock mechanics, and is willing to travel

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geological, Mining, or Civil Engineering
  • A graduate degree in Rock Mechanics is considered an asset
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario or another Canadian province/territory
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant engineering experience, specifically in mining and/or civil rock mechanics projects
  • Rock mass classification
  • Stability analysis of slopes and/or underground openings
  • Performance monitoring, instrumentation review, and inspections
  • Preparation of technical design reports and specifications
  • Strong background in geotechnical analysis and project management
  • Valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Contribute significantly to engineering design studies and operational support for mining and civil projects
  • Perform rock mass classification and define appropriate geomechanical domains
  • Conduct stability assessments for open-pit slopes and/or underground excavations
  • Design and implement performance monitoring programs, including data review and site inspections
  • Manage projects, including scope, schedule, and client coordination
  • Prepare engineering design reports, technical specifications, and recommendations
  • Support the growth and development of technical staff
  • Contribute to the development of new tools, methodologies, and internal processes
  • Travel domestically and internationally, as required by project needs

Our client is a leading engineering consultancy supporting mining and civil infrastructure projects across Canada and internationally . They are seeking an experienced Rock Mechanics / Ground Control Engineer to join their growing team and contribute to a wide range of complex, multidisciplinary projects.

The preferred location for this role is North Bay, Ontario.

Position Overview

As a Rock Mechanics Engineer , you will work closely with multidisciplinary project teams to provide technical leadership and engineering support for both development projects and operating mines. This role offers opportunities to take on technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, manage projects, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Travel within Canada and internationally may be required to support client projects.
