Job summary

SSA Recruitment (CA) is assisting a global engineering consulting firm in Burnaby to hire an intermediate to senior Geotechnical Engineer specializing in Rock Engineering. The role spans field exploration, lab testing, and design/management of complex geotechnical structures within a team of 35 in Burnaby and 200+ regionally.

You'll engage in rock mass characterization, slope stability, tunneling, rockfall hazards, and mining, with some fieldwork and mentoring responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Geological, or Mining Engineering, or Engineering Geology.
• 10 to 15 years of geotechnical engineering experience.
• Registered P.Eng. or P.Geo with EGBC, or eligible for registration.
• Valid Canadian driver's license with access to a vehicle.
• Based in BC or willing to relocate.

Responsibilities

• Apply growing expertise in rock engineering to slope stability, tunneling, underground excavations, foundations, rockfall hazards, and mining.
• Conduct field work including site inspections, geological mapping, borehole monitoring, rock core logging, and instrumentation installation.
• Coordinate with project teams across Canada and abroad and mentor junior staff as the team grows.
• Take ownership of tasks within small to mid sized projects, supporting planning, analysis, reporting and client communication.
• Contribute to forward thinking projects using UAVs and AI integrated solutions within the Innovation Office.

Geotechnical Engineer, Rock Engineering (Intermediate/Senior)

Our client, a global engineering consulting firm, is looking for an intermediate to senior engineer specialized in Rock Engineering to join their team in Burnaby.

This is a full service environment, from field exploration and lab testing through to designing and managing construction of complex geotechnical structures. You'll work closely with a local team of 35 geotechnical staff in Burnaby, backed by a wider regional team of over 200.

Your opportunity:

• Apply your growing expertise while learning from experienced engineers, assessing geological conditions and carrying out rock mass characterization across slope stability, tunneling, underground excavations, foundations, rockfall hazards, and mining
• Get out of the office with occasional field work, including site inspections, geological mapping, UAV or terrestrial photogrammetry, borehole monitoring, rock core logging, construction monitoring, and instrumentation installation, with the extent shaped by your interest and experience
• Coordinate with project teams across Canada and abroad, and help mentor junior staff as the team grows
• Take ownership of tasks within small to mid sized projects, supporting planning, analysis, reporting, and client communication with mentorship from senior staff
• Contribute to forward thinking projects using tools like UAVs and AI integrated solutions, with exposure to the firm's Innovation Office and Digital Center of Excellence
