Job summary

The City of Kawartha Lakes is hiring an Equipment Operator to maintain roads across the West A area. This temporary full‑time role requires operating a range of machinery, performing winter maintenance, traffic control, and daily reporting.

You will work 40 hours per week, with on‑call and winter season duties, supporting public safety and municipal services. Ideal candidates have a secondary diploma, plus a winter driving background and a valid Ontario Class D license with Z endorsement.

Qualifications

• Secondary School Diploma is required.
• Able to read and understand applicable road legislation and safety rules.
• Experience with road maintenance and operating municipal equipment is preferred.
• Ability to operate loaders, tractors and other equipment safely.

Responsibilities

• Assist in day-to-day maintenance and compliance operations on City roads.
• Provide winter control maintenance and road sign maintenance under supervision.
• Operate a range of equipment including plows, sanders, trucks, loaders and mowers.
• Perform traffic control duties and install traffic control infrastructure as needed.
• Keep time sheets and logs for supervisor review and ensure safety procedures are followed.
• Respond to public inquiries and provide information on roads maintenance issues.
