Qualifications

• Graduation from an approved school of Nursing.
• 1 year recent acute medical/surgical nursing or acute palliative care experience, plus completion of a certificate in the designated clinical area, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

Responsibilities

• Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates nursing care for patients in the Palliative Complex Care Unit; uses patient-centered, culturally sensitive approach to identify problems and plan interventions.
• Collects patient information from diverse sources using observation, communication and physical assessment to document and evaluate care.
• Consults and collaborates with the interdisciplinary health care team to develop appropriate care plans.
• Advocates for patient autonomy, privacy, dignity and access to information.
• Participates in quality improvement activities and research, contributing to program goals and procedures.
• Participates in evaluating care programs and outcomes with feedback for improvements.
• Mentors and precepts nursing staff and students as appropriate.
• Maintains a safe environment by following safety and emergency practices.
• Participates on nursing and hospital committees to improve patient care and work environment.
