Job summary

Canadian Natural in Calgary is seeking a student to join the Corporate Development group in Risk Management for a 4-month term starting January 2027. This role provides exposure to insurance products, risk management concepts, and contractual language used across the business.

You will support data collection and analysis for submissions, assist with risk reviews under supervision, and contribute to presentations and ad hoc projects while liaising with units such as Supply Management, Marketing,

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in 2nd–4th year undergrad or 1st–2nd year JD/LLB.
  • Strong organization and written communication skills.
  • Able to work independently or in a team.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Interest in risk management and insurance topics.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with data collection and analysis for insurance submissions and loss tracking.
  • Review contractual insurance provisions under supervision.
  • Support risk management learning about operations and industries.
  • Prepare presentations and documentation for internal teams.
  • Respond to internal inquiries on risk topics.

The Opportunity:

Gain valuable experience as a student for our Corporate Development group working in Risk Management. Risk Management involves analyzing and minimizing a corporation’s exposure to risk while conserving its human, financial, and physical assets through insurance and/or through contractual transfer of risk. In this role, you will develop anunderstanding of Risk Management principles and its application to protecting property, personnel, income, reputation, and the environment. Since risk and risk management touch every aspect of the business, you will develop a broad understanding of the company’s operations and geographical areas, and will liaise with multiple business units, including Supply Management, Marketing,Operations, Engineering, and Legal.

  • Job location: Calgary, AB – Head Office
  • Shift schedule: 5 days on, 2 days off, 8 hours/day (Monday – Friday)

Key Accountabilities:
  • Gain foundational knowledge of insurance products, risk management, and contractual language used across the business
  • Learn about Canada’s oil and gas industry and Canadian Natural’s operations (thermal, conventional, and oil sands)
  • Support review and analysis of contractual insurance provisions, including identifying key risks and common issues
  • Respond to internal inquiries on risk and insurance topics under supervision and track common requests and solutions
  • Assist with data collection and analysis for insurance submissions, reporting, and loss tracking
  • Contribute to presentations, documentation updates, research, and other ad hoc projects
What You Bring to The Role:
  • Currently enrolled in:
    • Your 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of an undergraduate degree with a focus in Commerce, Economics, Finance, Business, Law, or Political Science
    • Your 1st or 2nd year of an LLB or JD
    • Other relevant degrees will be considered
  • Highly organized and efficient
  • Able to produce high-quality written work
  • Skilled at communicating, interacting, and relating with others
  • Strong logical reasoning and analytical thinking skills
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic
  • Able to work independently or in a team environment, as required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
