About the role

Sulzer RES Canada is seeking a technically strong and customer focused Retrofit Specialist to join our Ontario team. In this role, you will partner closely with Sales to identify, develop, and secure turnkey retrofit and upgrade opportunities for rotating equipment across Eastern Canada. This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys blending technical depth with customer engagement, and who thrives in a role that directly contributes to business growth.

Strategic & Sales Support

Support the Retrofits Supervisor - Canada in executing regional strategy, sales planning, and continuous improvement initiatives. Develop territory‑specific plans to grow retrofit opportunities based on technical insight and customer needs. Serve as the primary technical resource for the Sales Team and customers on retrofit‑related inquiries.

Opportunity Identification & Customer Engagement

Lead customer‑facing activities such as asset reviews, health checks, technical forums, and site visits to uncover retrofit opportunities. Build strong, trust‑based relationships that position Sulzer as the preferred provider for retrofit solutions. Intermittent travel requirements estimated at 30% based on business needs (success in this role depends on being present with customers). Use the CRM system (Salesforce) to track opportunities and support sales pipeline visibility.

Engineering Support

Conduct technical assessments of rotating equipment to identify retrofit, upgrade, and rerate opportunities. Translate customer performance issues into clear scopes of work and retrofit concepts. Develop preliminary engineering calculations, hydraulic and equipment selections, and conceptual designs for proposals. Review historical equipment data and performance curves to recommend optimized solutions. Prepare technical documentation including specifications, design briefs, and engineering justifications. Collaborate with Service Center operations and engineering teams to validate feasibility and risk considerations. Provide technical clarification during proposal and negotiation phases. Stay current on emerging technologies and design practices relevant to rotating equipment retrofits.

Proposal Development & Technical Delivery

Prepare clear, technically robust retrofit proposals that highlight Sulzer’s value proposition. Work with the Toronto Service Center to identify retrofit potential within incoming repair projects. Ensure accurate categorization and tracking of retrofit orders in company systems. Provide timely input toward the Rolling Forecast (RFC) process for the assigned territory.

Execution & Handover

Support the full proposal lifecycle and orders review. Participate in handover meetings to ensure technical requirements and execution strategy are clearly communicated to execution teams. Ensure smooth transition from pre‑order to post‑order execution through effective documentation and communication. Participate in sales meetings and provide technical updates from the region.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

Follow all safety, health, and environmental procedures in alignment with Sulzer’s EHS Management System. Contribute to company‑wide quality initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
