Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Shell is seeking a Retail Site Assurance Advisor to join its team in Calgary.

The purpose of the role is to provide independent assurance across Shell's Company Owned retail network in Canada, with risk and assurance responsibilities extending to other business channels and locations as required, strengthening business controls, minimizing losses, supporting compliance, and enabling resilient business performance.

Key Accountabilities

Retail Site Assurance & Auditing

• Provide on-site assurance coverage across Company Owned retail sites throughout Canada.
• Conduct scored, sample-based audits of service stations to monitor Retailer compliance with company requirements, operating procedures and business controls.
• Assess the effectiveness of site-level controls and identify financial, operational, inventory and compliance risks.
• Document audit findings, provide clear feedback to Territory Managers and District Managers and recommend proportionate corrective actions.

Loss Prevention & Investigations

• Identify, investigate and recommend solutions to minimize operational and financial losses.
• Guide and support Territory Managers on general loss prevention and the resolution of loss-related issues.
• Monitor, investigate and follow up on non-compliant or unusual activity.
• Conduct root-cause analysis and recommend practical control improvements to prevent recurrence.

Wetstock Governance & Reconciliation

• Manage retail wetstock reconciliation processes, including the investigation and resolution of operational issues and inventory variances.
• Collaborate with Territory Managers, Operations, Finance and Wetstock team to address recurring issues and strengthen wetstock controls.
• Identify trends and recommend preventative actions to reduce future losses.

Retailer Risk Management

• Provide ad hoc advice and assurance support to the Operations team to minimize potential risk.
• Monitor and analyze transactional activities to identify trends, anomalies, and potential instances of fraud or misconduct.

Reporting, Insights & Business Support

• Analyze audit, compliance and loss data to identify control trends and emerging risks.
• Distribute clear data and insights to Sales, Operations and Finance Management to support informed decision-making.
• Provide objective oversight through control reviews, investigations and assurance activities, identifying risks and recommending sustainable control improvements
• Build effective working relationships and act as a trusted advisor to Territory Managers and cross-functional stakeholders.

What you bring

• The candidate must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Commerce or a related discipline.
• Minimum three (3) years of relevant experience in audit, assurance, accounting, finance, risk management, loss prevention, retail operations or operational compliance.
• Strong analytical, investigative and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial and operational data.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to provide clear, constructive feedback and influence without direct authority.
• Ability to independently plan and complete field-based work while managing multiple priorities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and business reporting tools.

Preferred

• Finance or accounting background.
• CPA designation or near completion of the CPA program.
• Experience conducting audits, control assessments, investigations or compliance reviews.
• Experience with retail fuel operations, inventory reconciliation or wetstock management.

Travel & Working Requirements

• Regular travel across Canada to complete site audits, investigations and assurance activities.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to retail locations, subject to Shell policies and applicable requirements.
