Job Summary

PetSmart’s Pet Associate (Retail Sales Associate) is responsible for engaging with pet parents and their pets while providing positive experiences and upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. This role also shares responsibility of store cleanliness and maintenance, pet safety standards as well as the direct care of pets within our store.

Job Responsibilities

• Engage with pet parents in person, over the phone, at the register, and online.
• Greet pet parents and answer their questions throughout the store.
• Prepare online orders for pick-up in store, ensuring a positive experience.
• Care for store-owned pets, including feeding, watering, and cleaning habitats.
• Maintain store cleanliness standards.
• Support weekly price changes and promotional pricing.
• Stage and sort new products to match sales floor plans.
• Face, fill, and recover products to meet sales standards.
• Recommend and sell merchandise, services, and live pets.
• Administer store-owned pet medications as directed by a veterinarian.
• Promote events like adoption weekends, Treats enrollment, and charity events.
• Ensure a safe environment for staff, pets, and customers.
• Take immediate action for sick or injured pets, including transport to vet.
• Assist in various store areas as needed.
• Participate in our culture of Belonging and Recognition.
• Follow all company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Stand, walk, climb ladders, and handle objects; reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear.
• Lift up to 50 pounds frequently, more than 100 pounds with team lift.
• Exposure to moving mechanical parts, pet hair, and moderate noise; handling live animals is common.
