Qualifications

• 2 to less than 3 years of meat processing experience (butcher, meat cutter, or trimmer roles).
• Secondary school education minimum.
• English language proficiency.
• Knowledge of halal cutting methods (preferred).
• Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or valid work permit.

Responsibilities

• Processing and presenting halal-certified meats for retail sale.
• Cleaning, cutting, trimming, and preparing standard and specialty cuts.
• De-boning beef, lamb, poultry, and other meat varieties.
• Operating grinding and slicing equipment for specialty preparations.
• Preparing specialty sausages and other processed meat products.
• Fulfilling custom cut orders to customer specifications.
• Weighing and packaging meats for retail display and sale.
• Maintaining compliance with government food safety regulations and halal handling protocols.

Job description

Iqbal Foods, Canada's premier halal supermarket chain serving the South Asian, Middle Eastern, and broader Muslim community across the Greater Toronto Area, is hiring a Retail Butcher for their flagship East York location on Thorncliffe Park Drive. This is a permanent full-time role. You will work directly at the halal meat counter, taking primary responsibility for processing and presenting halal-certified meats for retail sale.

Your key responsibilities include:

• Cleaning and preparing raw meats for processing
• Cutting, trimming, and preparing standard and specialty cuts
• De-boning beef, lamb, poultry, and other meat varieties
• Operating grinding and slicing equipment for specialty preparations
• Preparing specialty sausages and other processed meat products
• Fulfilling custom cut orders to customer specifications
• Weighing and packaging meats for retail display and sale
• Maintaining strict compliance with government food safety regulations, company hygiene standards, and halal handling protocols, including rigorous cross-contamination prevention

Iqbal Foods' store features tropical fruits and vegetables, halal-certified meats, imported dry goods, bulk spices and nuts, and is a cornerstone halal food destination for the Muslim community in East York.

Compensation & Schedule: Salary is $56,200 annually for 30 hours per week. Shifts are flexible and rotate across mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Vacation pay is 4%.
