What You Offer:

Ideally you have extensive experience supporting individuals with complex needs, including the use of effective de-escalation strategies and appropriate boundary setting. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) training, or equivalent, is required. Experience developing or implementing Behaviour Support Plans is considered an asset. The Position:

This is a permanent full-time position within our In-Home Program, supporting an adult participant Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 5:30pm.

Location - Southwest side of Edmonton near Heritage Valley Town Centre and James Mowat Trail.

Looking for an experienced staff with a background in supporting complex needs, de-escalation strategies, and boundary setting. Having Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) or similar training is a must.

The Community Specialist II (CS II) will be reporting to the assigned Program Manager. The CS II is a highly experienced direct support role, typically relating to more complex and specialized situations, behaviours, or environments. They work front-line and are pivotal to the creation of a safe, caring, and community-enriched life for the individuals and families who hire us. Thoughtful programming planning and implementation support participants to connect with their communities – establishing real relationships and creating meaningful days and lives. The conscientious CSII will act with integrity, be open to growth, live our purpose, cultivate teamwork, and put forth an extraordinary effort to empower people with disabilities and their families to grow, succeed, and belong.

  • Provide direct care and purposeful support with individuals identified as exhibiting behaviours that may limit access to community in an engaging, fun, and safe environment
  • Implement person-centered and behaviour plans designed to support and assist participants
  • Facilitate inclusion for individuals with complex and/or specialized situations
  • Deliver and adapt programs and services in an engaging and meaningful manner that imparts growth, success, and belonging
  • Foster genuine relationships promoting dignity, personal interests and identities
  • Empower individuals to create meaningful days and achieve their goals
  • Communicate effectively with integrity to individuals, families, and co-workers
  • Assist, support, and encourage individuals to advocate on their own behalf and achieve their personal goals through various development activities
  • Maintain timely, accurate and professional documents in accordance with AdaptAbilities policies and procedures
  • Perform other job-related activities as required
    Qualifications
    • Minimum education requirement of a High School Diploma and a minimum of 2-3 years of related experience; or graduation from an appropriate post-secondary program with a Certificate or Diploma. Programs include Disability Studies, Human Services, Social Work, Kinesiology, Physical Therapy, Psychology, Sociology, or Education or Education Assistant
    • Hands-on experience working with individuals with complex behaviors which limit their inclusion in community and/or programs
    • Alignment with AdaptAbilities core purpose and core values
    • Clear Police Information Check and Intervention Record Check are required upon hire
    • Intermediate First Aid Certification CPR Level C and AED is required upon hire
    • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Abuse Prevention and Response Protocol, and Medication Administration certification are required
    • Experience with Behavior Support Plans an asset

    Compensation $23.44 to $24.62 per hour depending on experience and education
