Job summary

AdaptAbilities is seeking a Respite/Disability Worker - Community Specialist II (In-Home) in the Southwest Edmonton community of Leger, near Terwillegar. This permanent part-time role runs Saturdays and Sundays from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, reporting to the Program Manager.

Qualifications

• Minimum education: High School Diploma and 2–3 years related experience; or post-secondary certificate/diploma in Disability Studies, Human Services, Social Work, Kinesiology, Physical Therapy, Psychology, Sociology, Education or Education Assistant.
• Experience with individuals with complex behaviors that limit inclusion in community.
• Police Information Check and Intervention Record Check required on hire.
• First Aid CPR Level C and AED required on hire.
• Clean Class 5 driver's license and vehicle required.
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Abuse Prevention and Response Protocol, and Medication Administration certifications required.

The Position:

This is a permanent part-time position within our In-Home Program, supporting an adult female participant in the Southwest Edmonton community of Leger, near Terwillegar. The position is scheduled for Saturdays and Sundays from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

The Community Specialist II (CS II) will be reporting to the assigned Program Manager. The CS II is a highly experienced direct support role, typically relating to more complex and specialized situations, behaviours, or environments. They work front-line and are pivotal to the creation of a safe, caring, and community-enriched life for the individuals and families who hire us. Thoughtful programming planning and implementation support participants to connect with their communities – establishing real relationships and creating meaningful days and lives. The conscientious CSII will act with integrity, be open to growth, live our purpose, cultivate teamwork, and put forth an extraordinary effort to empower people with disabilities and their families to grow, succeed, and belong.

• Provide direct care and purposeful support with individuals identified as exhibiting behaviours that may limit access to community in an engaging, fun, and safe environment
• Implement person-centered and behaviour plans designed to support and assist participants
• Facilitate inclusion for individuals with complex and/or specialized situations
• Deliver and adapt programs and services in an engaging and meaningful manner that imparts growth, success, and belonging
• Foster genuine relationships promoting dignity, personal interests and identities
• Empower individuals to create meaningful days and achieve their goals
• Communicate effectively with integrity to individuals, families, and co-workers
• Assist, support, and encourage individuals to advocate on their own behalf and achieve their personal goals through various development activities

• Perform other job-related activities as required

Qualifications

• Minimum education requirement of a High School Diploma and a minimum of 2-3 years of related experience; or graduation from an appropriate post-secondary program with a Certificate or Diploma. Programs include Disability Studies, Human Services, Social Work, Kinesiology, Physical Therapy, Psychology, Sociology, or Education or Education Assistant
• Hands-on experience working with individuals with complex behaviors which limit their inclusion in community and/or programs
• Alignment with AdaptAbilities core purpose and core values
• Clear Police Information Check and Intervention Record Check are required upon hire
• Intermediate First Aid Certification CPR Level C and AED is required upon hire
• Clean class 5 driver's license and a vehicle is required

Compensation $22.30 to $23.44 / hour depending on experience and education
