Alberta Health Services seeks a Respiratory Therapy Professional Practice Lead to advance professional practice across the Respiratory Therapy program at U of A Hospital. This role mentors staff, coordinates education, and partners with managers to implement practice-informed improvements.
The position emphasizes leadership, clinical expertise, and collaboration to meet accreditation and service targets within a busy academic health setting.
The role of the Professional Practice Lead (PPL), Respiratory Therapy, is to advance the professional practice of the Respiratory Therapy discipline to support excellence in patient and family centered health care. As the PPL you will align planning and policy development, service delivery and evaluation of the Respiratory Therapy Program for the University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) and Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute. This PPL position reports to the Manager of Respiratory Therapy for the UAH and Mazankowski Heart Institute. In the PPL role you will lead program development, evaluation and knowledge translation based on patient, population, service sector and/or zone needs. Additionally, the PPL provides professional practice support to clinicians, and discipline-specific professional expertise to operational managers and directors to meet their needs such as emerging trends, scope of practice, staff mix, service models, service outcome targets and accreditation. You will also support the achievement of service sector or zone goals within AHS using practice-informed decision-making tools.
As a Respiratory Therapist III, you will be responsible for mentoring, promoting standards of practice, responding to clinical questions, and coordinating ongoing skill and student development within your team. You will collaborate with managers and supervisors in the provision and access to internal and external continuing education and professional development programs including certifications and upgrades.
Active or eligible for registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CRTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy. Successful completion of the CRTA or CSRT certification examination or recognized equivalent. Minimum 5 years of acute care experience obtained within the last 7 years as a Respiratory Therapist. Demonstrated leadership experience in planning, leading change and evaluation. Demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development.
Preferred Qualifications:Demonstrated knowledge and engagement in the discipline related to best and leading practices, governance, legislation, ethics, current issues and trends. Demonstrated ability to guide and lead teams, build partnerships and foster effective relationships.
