Job description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, patient safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. The requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the appropriate site Supervisor, Respiratory Therapy, the successful candidate will:

1. Provide diagnostic data and administer respiratory therapy.
2. Formulate and chart care plans according to established procedures.
3. Ensure the safe and appropriate application of respiratory equipment and procedures across various units including adult, paediatric, neonatal intensive care units, cardiovascular unit, respiratory rehabilitation programs, emergency room, and medical-surgical nursing units.
4. Demonstrate respiratory care procedures and the operation of related equipment to patients and hospital staff.

Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience

• Graduation from a recognized Respiratory Therapy program.
• Eligibility for registered membership with the British Columbia Society of Respiratory Therapists (BCSRT).

Skills and Abilities

• Effective communication with patients, physicians, and the public.
• Proficiency in operating respiratory therapy equipment and procedures.
