Job Description
POSITION:
Residential Support Worker – Canada Summer Jobs Contract
(Scheduled shifts: Day, Evening and/or Weekends)
Facility
The Salvation Army - Correctional & Justice Services (Greenfield House)
LOCATION: Moncton, NB
Job Purpose
The Residential Worker provides a safe and secure environment for residents and visitors by monitoring activities of the clients/residents while being available for personal, practical and morale support.
This is a “Canada Summer Jobs” 8-week contract position, with allowance for extra training time; eligibility is for Youth between 15 and 30 years of age.
Qualifications
The incumbent is responsible for the following range of job duties characteristic, or typical of the job class:
- Monitors the activities of the clients/residents and maintains availability for personal, practical and morale support; may include providing safe storage and recording of prescribed medications.
- Accurately records day-to-day happenings using appropriate methods; maintains logbooks and completes occurrence reports.
- Liaises with referral sources and other external agencies as needed (e.g. social development, police, parole, urgent situations).
- Coordinate’s client care relating to security issues; may be directly involved in doing bed checks and room/personal searches.
- May carry out inspection/security checks of property and grounds in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Handles the admission, orientation and evaluation of clients’ understanding of rules; ensures ongoing enforcement of policies, which may include client discipline.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
NOTE: Not all incumbents perform all the duties described above but perform a similar range of duties.
Minimum Education Level Attained
The successful job applicant will be a post-secondary student who has completed high school, plus specialized courses in Addictions/Correctional/Human Services.
NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.
Minimum Prior Related Experience
Prior related experience would be an asset, including frontline work in a social service, criminology or policing setting.
Precautionary Measures
- The incumbent will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Police Investigation Check (CPIC) as well as obtain reliability security clearance.
- The incumbent will either hold or be willing to obtain First Aid/CPR certification.
- In addition to health and safety rules, the incumbent will be required to follow universal health precautions, with immunization for Hepatitis B and vaccination against tuberculosis highly recommended.
Hours: 40 hours per week
8 Week Canada Summer Jobs Contract, plus training
Compensation
The target hiring range for this position is $17.11 to $21.38 with a maximum of $25.66.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
