Job Description:
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
Mission: Small Blessings Early Childhood Development Centre exists to provide a wholesome, safe and happy learning environment for all children through modelling the example of Jesus.
Responsible for assisting the Early Childhood Educator in organizing, planning, and implementing a program that is responsive to the spiritual, social, physical, emotional, educational and recreational needs of each child under the direction of the Program Coordinator, Assistant Director and the Director. Along with the ECE, ensure all activities are age appropriate and co-constructed in such a way as to provide an effective and safe learning and development experience for every child while intentionally reflecting the mission of Small Blessings.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Child Development and Care:
Assist the ECE in facilitating the development and behaviour of children by using a variety of observation and documentation techniques.
A ssist the ECE in facilitating cognitive, language, social, emotional, creative and physical development of children and acceptance of diversity.
Assist the ECE in developing, implementing and evaluating programs.
Understand the NB Curriculum framework.
A ssist the ECE in implementing inclusion policy .
Assist the ECE in implementing and evaluating age-appropriate program .
Support the holistic development of all children.
Build meaningful relationships with the children .
Assist ECE in maintaining documentation of child’s development.
Meet health, welfare and safety needs.
Administer medication as directed by ECE.
A ccommodate for children’s allergies.
Assist ECE in implementing preventative healthy and safety measures.
Assist ECE in implementing safe travelling and off-site practices while providing adequate supervision during these times.
Provide first-aid and CPR when required .
Implement emergency and evacuation plan when required .
Review safety related issues with ECE.
Follow safe toileting and diapering procedures.
Identify and report suspected cases of child abuse and neglect.
Assist the ECE in promoting a healthy lifestyle.
Actively supervise children at all times .
Promote healthy eating and proper food serving techniques . Accommodate for special nutritional requirements. Model and teach proper table manners.
Guide children’s behaviour by using positive guidance techniques.
Facilitate appropriate language , conflict resolution, empathy, problem-solving skills and coping skills.
Assist ECE in establishing an environment to foster positive behaviour in the program .
G uide and observe children.
Facilitate appropriate language , conflict resolution, empathy, problem-solving skills and coping skills .
Use and promote active listening skills .
Protect children from physical and emotional harm.
Equipment & Facilities:
Use developmentally appropriate equipment .
Assist ECE in adapting programming and equipment to unique settings and situations
Maintain equipment, materials and furnishings . Maintain indoor and outdoor physical environment . Monitor cleanliness and sanitation of all areas used by children as per policy and guidelines
Family and Community Relations:
With ECE form collaborative partnerships with families
Assist ECE in orienting families to the program .
Communicate with families. Collaborate with parents .
Access and engage community resources, facilities and services . Raise awareness of community events . Involve volunteers.
Assist ECE in advocating for children and families.
Make connections between families and resources and respect the rights of the child .
With ECE collaborate with parents to identify strengths, needs and interests of the child.
With ECE collaboratively implement inclusion plans.
Professional Relationships

Record Keeping
Maintain records for legislation and regulations as directed by ECE.
Record daily and monthly attendance .
Record and report accidents, incidents and occurrences as required .
Record cleaning procedures .
Record medical procedures and the administration of medication .
Maintain up-to-date children’s records .
Record facility maintenance and safety checks .
Complete child’s daily log for parents .
Complete daily program log/record as directed by ECE.
Fulfil all other related duties as assigned.
Other
Attendance at parent meetings, staff meetings and other job-related activities will be part and parcel of this job description and the agreed salary.
Work schedule will be 8 (eight) working hours a day, Monday to Friday, for full-time employees. A flexible time schedule will be required .

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
Governance Boards and Councils: None.
Internal: Staff members, volunteers , children in the program.
External: Parents and guardians of the kids, agencies.
MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY:
• Reports directly to Assistant Director.
• Direct reports: management stream is not applicable.
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
No formal material responsibility .
Uses or maintains organization assets in accordance with established guidelines.
Does not process any financial transactions with no budget responsibilities.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The performance of the job requires frequently lifting/moving equipment and children, room .
set-up, moderate amount of teaching, leading etc.

The incumbent is required to lift up to 3 0 pounds with no assistance from others .

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
Completion of high school is required . Valid Early Childhood Education Assistant (ECEA) Certificate of up to one year of academic studies .
Must maintain a current, valid First Aid & C.P.R. Certificate.
An RCMP Vulnerable Sector check and a Social Development check must be completed prior to hiring and subsequently every 3 years .
The Salvation Army Armatus abuse training must be completed immediately upon hiring.
Must complete the mandatory New Brunswick curriculum training outline by the NB Curriculum Framework document .
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
Up to one year of related experience.
Broad knowledge and experience in supervising and implementing programs and completing evaluations related to programming.
Skills and Capabilities
Demonstrates an active interest and attitude suitable for working with large groups of children.
Must have a workable concept of childcare centres .
Ability to put children at ease and create a warm and friendly environment in which a child can develop fully.
Ability to communicate in kind , peaceful manner.
Ability to stay calm and patient.
This is a casual/relief position.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $15.65 to $18.59 with a maximum of $22.31.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
