Job summary

LOFT Community Services seeks a Residential Support Worker to provide a range of assistance to clients with complex mental health needs in a program residence or community setting.

You will help residents gain life skills, support daily living activities, and promote recovery in a safe, supportive environment. The role requires teamwork, crisis intervention, and strong documentation practices to ensure quality care.

Qualifications

• Understanding of harm reduction and psychosocial rehabilitation principles.
• Relevant degree/diploma in human services.
• At least two years of experience working with the client population.
• Knowledge of issues faced by adults with special needs and marginalized groups.
• Ability to negotiate with clients on goals and priorities.
• Experience working as part of a professional team and in meetings or groups.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and counselling skills.
• Strong crisis intervention and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to produce and maintain files and records.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to clients to increase independence, dignity and self-respect in a safe environment.
• Assist with daily living activities and life skills development (hygiene, meals, budgeting).
• Participate in house meetings, resident activities, and group initiatives.
• Maintain records, statistics and reports as required by procedures.
• Liaise with social services, health care systems and community agencies.
• Provide 24-hour crisis support on a rotational basis.
