Job summary

LOFT Community Services seeks a Residential Support Worker to provide comprehensive assistance and coaching to clients living with mental illnesses in a program residence or in the community.

You will build rapport, support daily living activities, facilitate meetings, coordinate schedules, and maintain records with a strong emphasis on safety, dignity, and recovery planning. A relevant human services credential and at least two years of experience are required.

• At least two years of experience working with the client population.
• Relevant degree or diploma in human services.
• Knowledge of issues faced by adults with special needs and marginalized groups, including addictions, cognitive impairments and HIV/AIDS.

Job Summary

The Residential Support Worker provides a range of assistance and supports to clients living with mental illnesses in a Program residence or independently in the community.

What You Will Do

• Build rapport with each individual and provide coaching or mentoring to enable them to meet their daily living requirements, including hygiene, medication management, cooking, meal planning, cleaning, shopping and budgeting. Develop strategies to maintain these activities and support recovery plans.
• Support and participate in house meetings and resident association activities, facilitate group meetings, prepare schedules of house activities and maintain awareness of residents’ whereabouts. Identify and communicate incidents to management; maintain petty cash, collect rents and address maintenance or property issues. Teach fire safety protocols and conduct regular health and safety checks.
• Maintain a strong support network of social, family, medical and psychiatric community links and resources. Provide reminders, accompany clients to appointments, navigate social services, and provide 24‑hour crisis support on a rotational basis.
• Promote psycho‑social rehabilitation, harm reduction, conflict resolution, crisis management and problem‑solving. Mediate conflicts between residents or with neighbours and ensure satisfactory resolution.
• Complete and maintain required records or statistics such as resident files, activity sheets and reports. Participate in program delivery, support and consult with colleagues, identify gaps, recommend solutions, and contribute to meetings, planning, evaluation initiatives, committees, events and activities. Orient new staff and assist in scheduling.

What You Bring

• Strong analytical, time‑management and organizational skills to support program planning and coordination.

Work Environment

• Work in resident rooms, exposure to second‑hand smoke.
• Required to be on after‑hours call on a rotating schedule.
• Work stairs and physically assist clients with daily activities.
• 10–20% travel to different locations by transit or own vehicle.
• Lift objects up to 50 lbs.
