Job summary

West Central Women’s Resource Centre (WCWRC) is seeking a Residential Housing Support Worker (Casuals – Multiple Positions) to assist tenants moving into designated permanent housing. You will connect to services, advocate, and work with community members to help them reach their goals.

Start ASAP. Salary is CAD 21/hour plus a shift premium and 6% vacation pay. Flexible schedule includes evenings, overnights, and weekends in a community-based setting that centers women and marginalized groups.

Qualifications

  • Solid grounding in harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and empowerment-based approaches.
  • Excellent interpersonal & written communication skills with clients and partners.
  • Strong crisis intervention skills.
  • Experience working with marginalized communities through an anti-oppression lens.
  • Professional, discreet handling of confidential information.
  • Experience collaborating with community organizations and service providers.
  • Exceptional organization and time management with a dynamic caseload.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Make connections with residents and understand their needs and goals.
  • Coordinate regular meetings and community activities to build relationships.
  • Connect residents to internal supports including housing and gender-based violence resources.
  • Liaise with residents' case workers after hours for continuity of care.
  • Coordinate skill-building and informational workshops.
  • Help participants prepare for meetings with their case workers and provide support.
  • Attend weekly case management meetings with the Residential Support Services Team.
  • Maintain organized files and track programming budgets.
  • Participate in WCWRC and community meetings as assigned.

The West Central Women’s Resource Centre (WCWRC) provides services and programming to women, gender diversepeopleandtheirfamilies in the West Centralneighbourhoodof Winnipeg. WCWRC is women centered and practices empowerment, inclusion, harm reduction, multi-level, and community economic development philosophies to support women experiencing poverty, homelessness, mental illness, violence, substance use orparticipatingin sex work.

Position Summary:

T he Residential Housing Support W orker will support all tenants moving into designated permanent housing units in connecting to internal and external services, navigating systems, providing advocacy where required and working with community members to reach their goals.

Start Date: ASAP

Salary Range: $21/hour plus a shift premium plus 6% vacation pay

Time requirement: flexible, between evenings from 3:30 pm -12:00 pm ; overnights from 11: 30pm-8:00am ; and daytime Saturdays and Sundays 7: 3 0am- 4:00pm

Duties and Responsibilities

ResidentialSupports

  • Make connections and build relationshipswithresidents, getting to know their needs and goals
  • Buildrelationships betweenresidentsthroughcoordinating ofregular meetings andcommunity activities
  • Connectresidentsto internal supports includinghousing, gender-based violence supports, cultural programs andvolunteer opportunities
  • Liaise betweenresidentsandtheir case workerafter hours, to ensure continuity of care outside of office hours
  • Coordinate skill buildingand informationalworkshops
  • Support participants to prepare for meetings, as planned with theircase worker, andaccompanyto offer support as needed
  • Attend weekly case management meetings with the Residential Support Services Team

Administration

  • Maintainorganized files and records of activityregardingwork withresidents
  • Oversee and track programming budget

Other

  • Participate in relevant WCWRC and community meetings with peers as assigned
  • Activelyparticipatein WCWRC staff retreats,trainingsand meetings
  • Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Solid grounding in harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and empowerment-based approaches
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust and rapport with clients and community partners
  • Strong crisis intervention skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrated understanding of working with marginalized communities through an anti-oppression lens and an awareness of the social determinants of health
  • Professional, responsible, and discreet when handling sensitive and confidential information
  • Experience working collaboratively with a variety of community organizations and service providers
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage a dynamic caseload
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Proficiencyin Microsoft Office andOutlook
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively in a diverse staff team
  • Open and willing to work within WCWRC’s values
Preferred:
  • Lived experience of overcoming housing insecurity, homelessness,povertyand/or marginalization strongly preferred
  • Experience supporting victims of gender-based violence and knowledge of available resources
  • Experience supporting refugee women and their families and knowledge of available resources
  • Experience providing housing support services to marginalized or at-risk populations
  • Experience working within the non-profit sector
  • Knowledge ofEIA, housing systems andthe Residential Tenancy Act would be considered an asset
  • Experience working collaboratively with community organizations
  • Class 5driverslicense and access to a vehicle an asset
Working Conditions:
