Job summary

Optima Living is seeking a Recreation Assistant to plan and implement therapeutic programs that meet the social, cognitive, physical, emotional and spiritual needs of residents. Reporting to the Recreation Manager, you will promote person-centred care and support residents to maximize independence.

Hours available: 28 hours and 21 hours per week. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, assist with events, and ensure safety and documentation standards are met.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized recreation and leisure program (asset).
  • Minimum of one year experience in recreation programming or activities.
  • Experience in a residential care or mental health environment is an asset.
  • CPR and First Aid certification is required.
  • Food Safe certification is required.
  • Serving It Right certification is required.
  • Class 4 driver’s license is an asset or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the design and delivery of person-centred recreation programs reflecting wellness.
  • Assists in coordinating and implementing recreational initiatives through activities.
  • Collaborates in developing resident profiles and assessments to set goals.
  • Interviews residents/families for information on past activities and lifestyles.
  • Monitors progress and makes recommendations on program placement.
  • Maintains documentation and progress notes.
