Job summary

AgeCare in Canada’s Nova Scotia region is seeking a Recreation Worker to plan, develop and run meaningful recreation and leisure activities for residents in a long-term care setting. You will promote wellbeing, community, lifelong learning and fun while supporting residents’ skills and relationships.

The role involves creating engaging spaces, communicating with residents and families, and collaborating with teams to continuously improve the recreation programme and care plans.

Qualifications

• Experience with seniors in a long-term care setting preferred.
• Diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, or therapeutic recreation, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop and run recreation and leisure activities.
• Assist in creating engaging spaces in the home to support resident participation.
• Maintain communications with residents, families, volunteers and community groups.
• Observe and report changes in residents' ability to participate and update care plans.
• Support other departments to promote resident engagement.
• Lead programs in a way that maximises residents' skills and abilities.
