Job summary

Kelowna Gospel Mission is seeking a part-time Resident Support Worker/Custodian (RSW-C) to ensure a safe, clean shelter environment and compassionate resident support. The role includes frontline duties, case notes, and collaboration with partners to uphold dignity and respect.

You will work Mondays and Tuesdays, 10:00 PM–6:30 AM, at Bay Ave, with an overnight differential. A criminal records check is required for this role.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 months experience in social work or related field.
• High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams).
• Strong interpersonal, listening, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
• Criminal Records Check (Vulnerable Sector) required.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate shelter activities that promote well-being and community engagement.
• Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of the shelter, adhering to health and safety standards.
• De-escalate conflicts and ensure the safety of all residents.
• Provide compassionate support to residents and maintain accurate client records.
• Assist with general housekeeping duties and managing residents’ belongings.

As a Resident Support Worker/Custodian (RSW-C) at KGM, you oversee frontline activities, ensuring a safe environment for individuals experiencing homelessness. From assisting clients with basic needs to supporting their transition, you play a vital role in upholding our core values of respect and dignity. Bay Ave operates an Overdose Prevention Site with supervised consumption.

Position Requirements

• Minimum of 3-months experience in social work or related field;
• Completion of High School Diploma as a minimum;
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred;
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Teams, and other relevant platforms;
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, encompassing active listening, conflict resolution, and negotiation, to build strong relationships within the team and with external partners;
• This position is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (Vulnerable Sector).
