Job summary

BGC Okanagan is seeking a Residential Worker for the Emergency Youth Shelter in Kelowna, BC. You will provide direct support to youth, covering overnight shifts, to address physical, emotional, social, educational, housing, and medical needs.

This temporary role supports leaves through Sept 30, 2026 or until the incumbent returns, offering professional development and a trauma-responsive team to assist in caring for vulnerable youth.

Qualifications

  • Certificate in a related human or social services field.
  • Minimum of one year of recent, relevant experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
  • Successful completion of the Agency’s screening process, including a criminal record check.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in case management and care planning by conducting assessments and helping develop PSPs for residents.
  • Coordinate with counsellors and supports to develop PSPs that help residents achieve goals and prepare progress reports.
  • Provide life skills training such as meal preparation, housekeeping, personal care, and financial management; connect residents to services.
  • Transport and support residents to appointments, shopping, and activities; engage residents in activities aligned with PSPs.
  • Promote safety through person-centered care and early intervention; respond to emergencies and report incidents.
  • Administer or monitor medications per policy; may administer Naloxone in emergencies following training.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation, including logs, youth files, case notes, and incident reports.

BGC Okanagan is seeking Residence Workers for our Emergency Youth Shelter in the Downtown Youth Centre. In this role, you will provide direct support to youth by ensuring their physical, emotional, social, educational, housing, and medical needs are met. You will also help them enhance their quality of life through daily living support and the development of essential life skills. These are temporary positions covering leaves that will end September 30, 2026 or upon the return of the incumbent.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Participate in case management and care planning by conducting assessments, setting goals, and assisting with the development, implementation, and evaluation of Personal Service Plans (PSPs) for residents.
  • Coordinates with counsellors, professionals, and natural supports to develop appropriate PSPs that support residents in achieving their goals. Contributes to progress evaluations and prepares reports as required.
  • Provides life skills training, including meal preparation, housekeeping, personal care, and financial management. Connects clients with social, educational, recreational, and community services to meet their needs.
  • Transport and supports residents in attending appointments, shopping, and leisure activities.
  • Engages residents in client-focused activities in alignment with their PSPs.
  • Promotes safety and prevents crises through person-centered care, proactive collaboration, and early intervention strategies.
  • Responds to potential emergency situations, including managing aggressive behaviors, to ensure the safety of clients and the public. Reports incidents to supervisors and participates in problem solving.
  • Administers or monitors client medications in accordance with established policies. May be required to administer Naloxone (NARCAN) in emergency situations, following training and OBGC procedures.
  • Provides emotional support, encouragement, and feedback to residents and their families.
  • Performs household and facility maintenance duties, including laundry, cleaning, meal preparation, grocery shopping, yard work, and snow removal.
  • Maintains accurate records and documentation, including statistics, logbooks, youth files (digital and paper), case notes, and incident reports.

  • Sunday - Thursday, 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
Part-Time
  • Friday & Saturday, 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM, Sunday & Monday, 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM

Rate of Pay: $25.95 per hour

Hours: Full-time and part-time hours available (see above)
