Job summary

Extendicare Canada Inc. is seeking a part-time Recreation Activities professional for our Tecumseh, Ontario home.

You will plan, implement, and evaluate individual and group activation programs, transport residents and supervise activities, while collaborating with nursing staff and other departments to meet resident needs. The role requires a Recreation or Gerontology diploma/degree and proven skills in program planning, care planning, and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Proof of successful completion of an approved Recreation and Leisure Services /Gerontology Diploma or Degree program required.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, as well as excellent documentation skills.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in one-on-one/group program planning, implementation and evaluation for both well and cognitively impaired.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in care planning and resident assessments.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate new ideas, resident programs and volunteer initiatives.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in working with the geriatric population especially those with cognitive impairment.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement and evaluate both individual and group activation programs based on assessed needs and as assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Set up and clean activity areas and transport residents to and from programs; monitor residents during programs and report changes to Supervisor/nursing staff.
  • Participate in development and revision of programs under Supervisor guidance.
  • Maintain program and resident records according to department policy; communicate participation by residents to registered staff.
  • Work cooperatively with other departments to meet resident needs.

This position is for our Tecumseh Home, located in Tecumseh, Ontario

Available Opportunities: Part- Time; Evening Shift with opportunity for additional hours during all shifts.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Plan, implement and evaluate both individual and group activation programs based on assessed needs and as assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Set up and clean activity areas as necessary and transport residents to and from programs. Monitor the behavior and condition of residents during programs and report any significant changes to the Supervisor and nursing staff as appropriate.
