Job summary

Extendicare Tecumseh Home is hiring a part-time Recreation/Leisure Services professional for the evening shift. You will plan and run activation programs for residents, set up activity areas, and transport residents as needed.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge in one-on-one/group program planning, implementation and evaluation for well and cognitively impaired.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement and evaluate individual and group activation programs.
  • Set up and clean activity areas and transport residents to programs.
  • Monitor residents' behavior and condition during programs and report changes.
  • Participate in development and revision of programs with supervision.
  • Maintain program and resident records per policy.
  • Communicate residents' participation to registered staff.
  • Collaborate with other departments to meet resident needs.

This position is for our Tecumseh Home, located in Tecumseh, Ontario Available Opportunities: Part- Time; Evening Shift with opportunity for additional hours during all shifts.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Plan, implement and evaluate both individual and group activation programs based on assessed needs and as assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Set up and clean activity areas as necessary and transport residents to and from programs.
  • Monitor the behavior and condition of residents during programs and report any significant changes to the Supervisor and nursing staff as appropriate.
  • Participate in the development and revision of programs under the guidance of the Supervisor.
  • Maintain program and resident records according to department policy.
  • Communicate participation by residents to registered staff.
  • Work cooperatively with other departments to meet resident needs.
What you bring:
  • Proof of successful completion of an approved Recreation and Leisure Services /Gerontology Diploma or Degree program required.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, as well as excellent documentation skills.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in one-one/group program planning, implementation and evaluation for both well and the cognitively impaired.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in care planning and resident assessments.
  • Ability to work independently and ability to manage time effectively.
  • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate new ideas, resident programs and volunteer initiatives.
