Job summary

Indspire in Toronto is seeking a dynamic Researcher to lead and support multi-year research projects that deepen our understanding of how Indspire’s programs are shaping outcomes for Indigenous learners.

You’ll collaborate with internal and external partners to explore the lived experiences of Indigenous post-secondary students, examine connections between programs and achievement, and generate meaningful insights from complex data.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent with emphasis in research.
  • 5+ years in research and program evaluations.
  • Experience with Indigenous communities preferred.
  • Ability to collect, analyze and interpret quantitative data.
  • Strong written and oral communication.

Responsibilities

  • Manage research and evaluation activities including planning, data analysis, reporting, and data quality management.
  • Establish research programs to improve data production and use.
  • Apply data science principles to research and evaluation activities.
  • Support development of new data gathering and management processes.
  • Develop conceptual and analytical frameworks for research and program development.
  • Provide data-driven advisory support to stakeholders.
  • Generate options based on results and recommend solutions and implementation strategies.
  • Report progress to Director, Research and Impact and project teams.
  • Collaborate with external researchers, evaluators, and contractors.

Indspire is seeking a dynamic Researcher to join the Research & Impact team. Reporting to the Director, Research & Impact, this role leads and supports multi-year research projects that deepen our understanding of how Indspire’s programs are shaping outcomes for Indigenous learners.

You’ll collaborate with internal and external partners to explore the lived experiences of Indigenous post-secondary students, examine connections between programs and achievement, and generate meaningful insights from complex data. You’ll also help mentor and work alongside emerging Indigenous researchers and analysts.

Key Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll be:
  • Managing research and evaluation activities including planning and executing research, data analysis, reporting, and improving and managing data quality.
  • Establishing research programs and practices to increase efficiency of data production and use.
  • Professionalizing research and evaluation activities using data science principles.
  • Supporting the development of new operational mechanisms for efficient and effective data gathering and data managements processes.
  • Developing and applying appropriate conceptual and analytical frameworks in research analysis and program development processes.
  • Providing advice and support based on both internal and external data sources and research.
  • Generating a range of options based on research results, assessing the implications and feasibility of these options and recommend viable solutions and implementation strategies for new research.
  • Reporting to the Director, Research and Impact on the status of research, as well as the progress reported by project teams.
  • Supporting cross-functional organizational initiatives as required.
  • Providing data and information as required to colleagues.
  • Collaborating with external researchers, evaluators, and contractors.
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate Degree (four-year honours program with an emphasis in research) or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Progressive experience in research and program evaluations typically demonstrated through 5 or more years in the field.
  • Proficiency in R, Python, or SPSS and other research-related software and analytical programs
  • Project management experience, managing complex research from inception through to implementation with minimal direction.
  • Extensive experience working with Indigenous communities and people.
  • Experience in developing creative solutions to complex research problems.
  • Ability to collect, extract, analyze and interpret quantitative data.
  • Apply systematic, logical reasoning when addressing problems to arrive at appropriate outcomes.
  • Ability to work with sensitive information with complete confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of and experience in Indigenous education and labour market research and related fields
  • Knowledge of Indigenous research and/or issues of equity and systemic change, and experience working with community/Indigenous groups in the formulation of social policy, analysis and/or research is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated openness to learning and willingness to engage in cultural competency training.
  • Sound interpersonal skills, cross-cultural awareness and understanding, and good judgement.
  • Ability to work both independent and in a team environment.
  • Flexibility in learning new program areas or analytical techniques
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • High level of communication skills with an emphasis on excellent oral communication and writing ability
