Job description

At Loblaw Digital, we know that our customers expect the best from us. Whether that means building the best, most innovative online shopping experience, or designing an app that will impact the lives of people across the country, we’re up for the challenge. From our office in Downtown Toronto, we’ve created leading eCommerce experiences in the online grocery shopping, beauty, pharmacy, and apparel spaces, and we’re only just getting started.

Why is this role important?

Research Lead - 12-Month Contract

As a Research Lead in the User Experience program, you will be leading a research team, whose mandate is to discover and share research and insights that advocate for our customers’ experiences across Canada. Our goal is to be our industry’s leader in exceptional digital experiences, and we put our customers at the center of everything we do through continuous research, design, strategy, and technical innovation, giving a voice to our customers in all our businesses’ decisions.

In this role, you will partner closely with leaders across multiple functions (Senior Leadership, Product Design, Product Management, Engineering, Marketing, Analytics, Operations, and more) to advocate for human-centered thinking and the craft of mixed-method research for your line(s) of business. You will lead the Voice of Customer program for all businesses which includes ensuring our customer’s experiences are brought to the forefront of every conversation. You will manage our relationship with the research platform vendors and ensure these tools meet the needs of all stakeholders (including the development of key dashboards, using AI automation to set up regular reporting, and conducting thorough analyses of data). In owning your team’s roadmap, you will strategically plan and apply research cycles into all levels of the business strategy. Your role is critical in helping to inform product roadmap development and long-term strategic planning.

You will lead a team of highly skilled practitioners to deliver actionable insights by building tailored approaches which influence business decisions. You will develop their skills through clear feedback and uncover opportunities to support their growth, and by extension, the growth of our broader User Experience Research practice at Loblaw Digital.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead a research team across all businesses, embedding yourself in the businesses’ core rituals and establishing yourself as a recognizable leader
  • Own the team’s Voice of Customer program and key research partnerships; guiding your team to distill complex data collected throughout the customer’s journey into actionable insights
  • Recruit, hire and manage a team of practitioners; building a high-performance culture by continuously developing their skills through clear feedback and uncovering opportunities to support their growth
  • Frame research plans, discover new opportunities and work with your team to lead a wide range of research initiatives that help understand and solve complex business problems
  • Support Sr. Leadership with long-term strategic planning and initiatives that help set our focus and vision for both the short- and long-term
  • Use AI and Automation tools to improve the efficiency of research tasks such as verbatim analysis, data reporting, and presentation
  • Build partnerships with leaders on other data teams to consistently have a holistic view of our customers by triangulating internal data (e.g. business metrics & operations, analytics, experimentation) and external data sources (e.g. syndicated market research, desk research)
  • Maintain a pulse on competitor and precedent experiences in the market or adjacent industries; continuously assessing best-in-class and areas for innovation within your line of business
  • Collaborate with UXR leadership to continuously develop and improve the broader UX Research practice, including establishing new ways of working, implementing new research methodologies, and more

As a member of the LD UX Leadership team, you will also:

  • Collaborate with UX leadership to foster an authentic, human-centered culture;
  • Champion research democratization and operational processes, supporting UX team members & the broader organization’s growth and learning opportunities;
  • Support in hiring UX leaders and practitioners across the broader practice
Does This Sound Like You?
  • An expert practitioner (5+ years) in quantitative research methods
  • 3+ years experience directly managing and coaching researchers, providing clear, candid feedback and professional development guidance
  • Strong knowledge and use of AI tools
  • Demonstrated understanding of the strengths and shortcomings of quantitative research methods, including when and how to apply them during product development processes and apply them to strategy
