Job description

At icspi, we are creating the future of nanoscale imaging.

We design, manufacture and sell the fastest and most intuitive atomic force microscopes (AFMs) on the market. Our instruments enable scientists and engineers to make their next discoveries faster; they are used every day in over forty countries to make discoveries and advance science and technology.

As Research Engineer at icspi, you will work with other engineers to develop and build precision electro-mechanical measurement systems and get them to perform.

We are looking for an engineer with a broad skill set. You will play a critical role in developing, integrating and optimizing systems that use our unique MEMS-based AFM technology to drive industry-leading performance and capability. You are adaptable and can move between working on micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS), precision electro-mechanical systems, optics, electrical hardware, to automating data analysis with scripting.

Who you are
  • You are a hands-on engineer who is not afraid to build stuff: you enjoy getting things to work.
  • You are comfortable with rapid mechanical and electrical prototyping, and debugging.
  • You are not afraid of working with very precise systems that measure on the sub-nanometer level.
  • You are comfortable with mechanical CAD and electrical CAD.
What you'll do
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical and software teams to gather requirements; design and build electro-mechanical systems for atomic force microscopy.
  • Design and conduct hands-on lab experiments end-to-end; analyze data; automate test procedures.
  • Push the systems to their performance limits; debug issues; improve reliability.
  • Develop new ways of controlling the systems and sensors; develop new data acquisition methods.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in engineering (electrical, mechanical, nanotechnology, systems, engineering physics) or physics.
  • Knowledge of electronic design.
  • Knowledge of mechanical design.
  • Experience with scripting and data manipulation in Python.
Nice to have
  • Experience designing and building electro-mechanical systems.
  • Experience with semiconductor metrology and inspection tools.
  • Knowledge of micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS).
  • Knowledge of precision mechanical engineering.
  • Knowledge of atomic force microscopy.
