The Opportunity

Under the supervision of Dr. Justine Dol as the Dr. Margaret Oulton Accelerate Chair in Women+ Health Research, the Research Coordinator will be dedicated to supporting ongoing project within the Women and Newborn Health Program (WNHP) at IWK Health. The responsibilities of the position include a range of administrative and research-related duties.

• Facilitate, coordinate, enhance and promote research activities by coordinating and managing research projects ongoing within the WNHP at IWK
• Carry out research-specific activities from project initiation to project completion (including designing studies, data collection, interpretation of results, drafting of deliverables, creating tables and figures)
• Contribute to the development and implementation of research study protocols, including study design and analytic procedures
• Preparing documents for REB review and ensuring adherence to IWK Health REB and TCPS-2 policies
• Recruitment of study participants including conducting interviews, obtaining informed consent, collecting and entering data, maintaining records and coordinating patient schedules
• Maintaining excellent professional and collaborative relationships with families and patients as well as clinical staff (physicians, nurses, ward clerks, etc.)
• Critically appraise and synthesize literature, retrieve articles, and maintain citation databases
• Contribute to the preparation of abstracts, poster presentations, peer-reviewed publications, and other relevant deliverables
• Clear and transparent communications, virtually, in person, email, telephone, etc.
• Other research related duties as required

Hours of Work

This hybrid role at IWK Health in Halifax, Nova Scotia, is a 12-month position for 37.5 hours per week with the possibility of extension. Hours of work will typically be required during business hours (M-F 8am-4pm) but may vary depending on study requirements, with some weekends and evenings.

Your Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a health-related field
• Clinical degree and/or experience in a health-related field are highly preferred (e.g., nursing)
• Experience working on applied health-related research projects with human participants, with experience in both qualitative and quantitative methodology
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience with qualitative and quantitative statistical analysis, epidemiological methods and data management
• Experience with research computer programs and software (e.g. REDCap, Zotero, SPSS, R, Meditech)
• Attention to detail with a high regard for quality
• Excellent time management and a demonstrated ability to establish and meet deadlines
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively on multiple projects simultaneously
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team
• Professionalism, good interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact well with families, and vulnerable populations
• Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of information
• Experience in a related role in a health centre or university/academic environment an asset
• Experience with science communication, knowledge mobilization, and/or patient partnership is an asset
