Job summary

The Opportunity

Reporting to the study Principal Investigators, the Clinical Research Program Manager holds full operational, regulatory, and personnel oversight of the research program across the pediatric Endocrinology and Neurology departments. This role leads a multidisciplinary research team, manages study budgets and sponsor relationships, and ensures regulatory and scientific integrity across all pediatric studies within the program.

• Provide operational oversight of multi-site research protocols, including coordination across external study sites and serving as the primary liaison for site-level communication and issue resolution
• Lead development and submission of research ethics board applications, amendments and renewals, including navigating institutional systems (e.g., ROMEO) for multi-site ethics changes
• Develop, prepare, and negotiate study budgets from initial costing through sponsor sign-off, including per-patient costs, staffing allocations, and overhead; monitor spending and flag variances or reforecasting needs to PIs and sponsors
• Serve as the primary point of contact for sponsors, contract research organizations (CROs), and central/reference labs on operational, budgetary, and logistical matters, including negotiation of trial agreements and lab service agreements
• Build and maintain working relationships with external collaborators, industry sponsors, and academic partners to support current and future study opportunities
• Lead recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of research staff (e.g., Research Assistants, Research Nurses, Lab Assistants), including drafting job postings, coordinating direct-hire processes, and managing FTE and staffing justifications
• Supervise, train, and mentor junior research assistants and support staff on study procedures, SOPs, and regulatory requirements; review and provide feedback on staff performance
• Oversee day-to-day workflow and task delegation across the research team to ensure study milestones and deadlines are met
• Oversee AE/SAE reporting processes, regulatory document management, and quality assurance of data collection, case report forms (CRFs), and source documents across the study portfolio, ensuring team-wide adherence to ICH-GCP, TCPS 2, and Health Canada Division 5 requirements
• Lead or contribute to scientific writing, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, manuscript preparation, and grant application development, including plain-language interpretation of statistical and clinical findings for internal, sponsor, and public-facing materials

Hours of Work

8 am - 4 pm, Monday to Friday
37.5 hours weekly

Your Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in science or health field required (advanced degree an asset)
• 5+ years of progressive experience in clinical research, with demonstrated experience in research team leadership, supervision, project/program management, or increasing operational responsibility
• Clinical procedures experience including Tanner staging, Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis required
• Demonstrated experience developing, negotiating, and managing study budgets, contracts, and sponsor/vendor agreements
• Experience with IWK research ethics board submissions and multi-site amendments (e.g., ROMEO); prior clinical research coordination experience an asset
• Prior experience with large-scale, multi-site studies
• Knowledge and experience of endocrine/neurology studies including MIREC, TrialNet, or CAN-DRE an asset
• Demonstrated experience in pediatric clinical research required, including working directly with pediatric participants and families
• Current CPR, Health Canada Division 5, TCPS 2, and ICH-GCP certifications required
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including scientific/technical and grant writing
• Strong organizational and delegation skills; ability to lead a team and work independently with minimal supervision
