Job description

SAIT’s Applied Research and Innovation Services department helps partners conceptualize, prototype, and deliver products to market. ARIS is at the forefront of technology development, with 50,000 square feet of specialized research labs, facilities, and dedicated staff to support organizations from concept to prototype.

The Opportunity

Join the ARIS team as a Research Assistant supporting the Green Building Technology Access Centre (GBTAC), CERCUTS, and CIRUS. Reporting to the Manager, Indigenous Relations and Special Projects, you will work closely with Principal Investigators across various research themes and collaborate with applied research teams. Ideal candidates are enthusiastic, adaptable, resourceful, and interested in sustainable development, with attention to detail, problem-solving skills, organizational and communication abilities, and proficiency in Microsoft Office. Experience with team support, project coordination, and engagement with Indigenous communities is advantageous.

The Role
  1. Project Work, Subject Matter Expertise
  2. Support performance monitoring, data analysis, technical support, and report writing related to research themes including building energy systems, renewable energy integration, smart building management, net zero energy, and building science.
  3. Participate in project meetings with community and technical stakeholders, support reporting to funding agencies, and assist community stakeholders with project activities and engagement.
  4. Assist in preparing content for federal and provincial grant applications.
  5. Support SAIT departments and team members as needed.
  6. Incorporate Two-Eyed Seeing approaches to integrate Indigenous perspectives with technical solutions within community contexts.
  7. Collaborate across the project lifecycle, with an interest in project management involving multidisciplinary teams focused on clean energy and energy efficiency.
  8. Organize schedules, meet deadlines, and report updates verbally and in writing to management.
  9. Complete administrative tasks, maintain confidentiality, and liaise with ARIS Research and SAIT schools to foster collaboration.
  10. Communicate research successes and collaborate with CIRUS pilots and analysts, participating in project meetings focused on the RPAS project lifecycle and coordinating with the Drone Training Centre.
Education and Networking
  1. Participate in seminars, scientific discussions, and activities for professional growth such as conferences, educational programs, and committees.
  2. Support tours, presentations, and engagement activities with Indigenous communities.
Qualifications
  1. Minimum Required
  2. Alberta High School Diploma or equivalent
  3. Experience or familiarity with project management or a technical background
  4. Preferred
  5. Diploma, certificate, or degree from a recognized institution in a relevant field (experience in all research areas not required)
Working Conditions
  • Primarily desk work and meetings, with some lab work
  • Occasional exposure to loud noises, use of power tools, and lifting objects over 50 lbs with assistance
  • Occasional travel within Alberta and work at client sites

Job Classification: Laboratory Technician I

Hourly Rate: $19.62 - $22.79
