The University of Regina’s Institute for Energy, Environment and Sustainable Communities is seeking a Research Administrator to connect researchers and partners, coordinate projects, and support work that advances energy and environmental research.

Reporting to the Executive Director, IEESC, you will manage budgets, assist with proposals, and provide administrative leadership to enhance research impact with government and industry stakeholders at provincial, national and international levels.

Qualifications

Join the Institute for Energy, Environment and Sustainable Communities as a Research Administrator to connect researchers and partners, coordinate innovative projects, and support the work that drives energy and environmental research forward.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Institute for Energy, Environment and Sustainable Communities ( IEESC ), the Research Administrator will act as the administrative officer for issues related to energy and environment research at the IEESC including acting as a point of contact for researchers/communities contacting the Institute for issues related to energy and environment, and providing critical support for a significantly increasing variety of interactions between researchers of Institute and a number of governmental and industrial organizations in provincial, national and international levels. This position will work closely with the Institute Project/Development Manager and provide research administration support to IEESC projects, initiatives and activities. This position also requires a sound knowledge of accounting and financial analysis in the management of the day-to-day budget of IEESC grants/contracts and joint international collaborative programs, as well as the management of field and laboratory works. Rich in-lab and field research experiences are desired for supporting IEESC’s energy and environment research. In addition, the Research Administrator will support ongoing communications between researchers at UofR and domestic/international partners. The Research Administrator will provide support to the Institute Project/Development Manager in the development of periodical reports of IEESC’s research achievements.

What You’ll Do:

  • In charge of the overall administration of energy and environment research at the IEESC to provide research and technical support to graduate students, visiting scholars, research assistants and research scientists;
  • Coordinate research collaborations among researchers of IEESC and those of joint international collaborative programs, and act as point of contact for various collaborative research activities;
  • Manage IEESC research laboratories;
  • Organize research-related field trips;
  • Manage budgets and project finances;
  • Manage IEESC websites;
  • Provide assistance in the preparation of research proposals, research plans, project reports, and other research-related documents;
  • Coordinate office functions of the IEESC as required.

Position Requirements

What You’ll Bring to this Position:

  • M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering and/or Interdisciplinary program with Environmental Engineering context.
  • Membership in national or international energy/environment‑related (such as water resources) societies or similar organizations or demonstrated leadership at municipal, provincial, national or international level in the area of energy and environment.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Skills That Will Ensure Your Success in the Role:

  • Knowledge of the theory, principles, methods and practices of interdisciplinary research in environmental engineering and energy/environment systems management
  • Ability to provide effective training, guidance and leadership to students, visiting researchers and scholars to the IEESC.
  • Experience in working with synchrotron‑radiation‑based facilities is an asset.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills in addressing a broad range of faculty, staff, students and external community including funding partners and research collaborators.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing finances, including budget management and planning, accounting and financial analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience in assisting the preparation of proposals for sponsored research funding from federal and provincial agencies, research funding organizations, and industry partners.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting research‑related field trips and sampling works, overseeing logistical arrangements and data collection.
  • Demonstrated ability in managing multiple tasks, and working with shifting priorities and schedules.
  • Excellent computer skills for various office works; particularly, skills in website development and maintenance are required.
