Job summary

Affirm is seeking a senior mobile engineering leader to set the technical direction for a high-impact team building the shared mobile app infrastructure. You will collaborate with product, design and analytics, own reliability playbooks, and drive quality across large-scale projects using React Native and Expo.

You will mentor engineers, update architectures for the New Architecture, and stay current withOS changes while delivering robust, scalable components and tooling for cross-team adoption.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience developing and architecting mobile applications, 4+ with React Native.
• Proficient in JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Hands-on React Native and Expo experience; authored or migrated native modules/components.
• Experience with complex state management; Redux Toolkit bonus.
• Experience updating React Native SDKs and debugging JS-native boundary.
• Stay current on native OS releases affecting React Native apps.
• Experience with mobile testing and observability tooling (Maestro/Appium, Sentry/Crashlytics, Statsig/LaunchDarkly).
• Proficient in AI-assisted development (Claude Code or similar) and applying guardrails for quality.
• Proven track record leading teams to execute large projects and deliver major features.
• Strong written and verbal communication for cross-functional collaboration.
• Bachelor’s or equivalent practical experience required.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long horizon and align with business-impacting projects.
• Collaborate across product management, design, and analytics to ensure technical sustainability and risk management.
• Act as a force-multiplier by defining and advocating technical solutions and operational processes.
• Own team operations and availability with monitoring, playbooks, testing, and alerting for reliability.
• Foster quality and ownership through coding and design standards, and evangelize across teams.
• Develop talent by giving feedback, guidance and leading by example.
