Shakepay is seeking a Staff Design Engineer who bridges design, product, and engineering. This design-first role emphasizes coding to prototype and ship complex problems rapidly while maintaining a design-led product development approach.

You’ll take ownership from problem to delivery, build functional prototypes, and collaborate with backend/engineering to create performant, scalable experiences across mobile and web for Canadian users. Remote-friendly with stock options and ongoing learning.

Qualifications

• Proven hybrid experience shipping real products with design and code implementation (e.g. React, TS, Node, Vue).
• Strong product sense with an eye for quality and intuitive UX.
• Deep understanding of modern front-end constraints and performance considerations.

Responsibilities

• Own problems end-to-end: from understanding the problem to designing the experience and shipping the front-end code.
• Prototype in code: replace static mockups with functional prototypes to validate ideas quickly with real user feedback.
• Drive design-led development: work in fixed-time, variable-scope environment and partner with backend and core engineering.
• Ship fast without sacrificing quality: deliver polished production-ready experiences on tight timelines.
• Elevate the UI architecture: evolve design system and component libraries for consistency across mobile and web.
