Job summary

Planet seeks a Software Engineer - Platform, Mission Systems, to build and maintain scalable mission-control services for its satellite fleet. The role focuses on automation, cloud infrastructure, and reliable platform services that support operators and analysts worldwide.

You will work with cross-functional teams, implement robust CI/CD, and contribute to BCP, testing, and documentation in a dynamic, remote-eligible environment based in Canada or the United States.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or similar.
• 4+ years of relevant work experience.
• Experience building services that leverage cloud-based infrastructure and tooling (AWS or GCP).
• Experience maintaining infrastructure with Ansible, Kubernetes, or Terraform.
• Experience in Python programming.
• Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL).
• Attention to quality: automated testing, code review, and documentation.
• Experience with CI/CD workflows and tools like GitLab CI and Docker.
• Proficient Linux skills.
• Self-starter with problem-solving in a dynamic environment.
• Clear communication with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and augment automation and services responsible for operation of Planet's satellites.
• Manage cloud-based infrastructure and tooling to meet internal needs and SLAs.
• Design and deploy critical infrastructure; evaluate and choose software technologies.
• Collaborate across teams to ensure satellite constellation meets mission needs.
