Placements24 is seeking a highly skilled Remote Legal Counsel with extensive experience in technology contracts to support a forward-thinking organization. This fully remote role allows you to work from anywhere in South Africa and focus on software licensing, SaaS, data privacy, and IP.You will collaborate with product, engineering, and sales teams to tailor legal solutions, manage risk in emerging technologies, and stay current with POPIA, GDPR, and global regulation.

Qualifications

• Admitted Attorney with 8+ years post-qualification experience.
• Strong drafting and negotiation of technology contracts and licensing.
• Solid understanding of data privacy and IP protection in tech.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate technology contracts including SaaS, software licenses, MSAs and NDAs.
• Advise on data privacy regulations (POPIA, GDPR) impacting tech services.
• Provide IP guidance related to software development and tech usage.
• Collaborate with product, engineering and sales to tailor legal solutions.
• Manage risks for emerging technologies and digital transformation.
• Monitor global and SA tech regulatory developments.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Remote Legal Counsel with specialized experience in technology contracts to join their forward-thinking organization. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to work from anywhere within South Africa. You will play a critical role in supporting the company’s innovation and growth by advising on complex technology-related agreements, including software licensing, SaaS, data privacy, and intellectual property. Key Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of technology-focused contracts, such as SaaS agreements, software licenses, master service agreements, and NDAs.
• Advise on data privacy and protection regulations (e.g., POPIA, GDPR) impacting technology services.
• Provide legal guidance on intellectual property matters related to software development and technology usage.
• Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and sales teams to understand business needs and provide tailored legal solutions.
• Manage legal risks associated with emerging technologies and digital transformation initiatives.
• Stay abreast of legal and regulatory developments in the technology sector globally and in South Africa.

Requirements

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court with a minimum of 8 years of post-qualification experience.
• Significant experience in drafting and negotiating complex technology contracts and licensing agreements.
• Strong understanding of data privacy laws and IP protection within the tech landscape.
• Proven ability to work independently and manage a demanding caseload in a fully remote capacity.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience working with or advising technology companies is highly desirable.
