Job summary

MATRIX Co in Osoyoos, BC is seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator to support mining and winter road projects. The role involves remote-location field duties, camp accommodations, and winter conditions.

You will partner with project managers, supervisors, and subcontractors to foster a strong safety culture and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities include implementing safety programs, inspections, JHA/FLHA development, training, incident investigations, and maintaining records.

Qualifications

• OHS certification or relevant post-secondary education.
• Experience as Health & Safety Coordinator or advisor in mining, heavy civil construction, or remote projects.
• Experience with winter ice roads or remote camp operations is an asset.
• Knowledge of applicable OHS legislation and client safety requirements.
• Current First Aid/CPR certification, as required by the project.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to remote locations.

Responsibilities

• Implement and monitor site-specific health and safety programs across multiple mining and winter road projects.
• Conduct regular site inspections, hazard assessments, and safety audits.
• Support the development and review of JHAs, FLHAs, safe work procedures, and emergency response plans.
• Ensure compliance with applicable occupational health and safety legislation, company policies, and client requirements.
• Lead and participate in toolbox talks, safety orientations, and daily safety meetings.
• Monitor winter ice road construction, maintenance, heavy equipment operations, and vehicle safety.
• Identify and address cold-weather hazards, including frostbite, hypothermia, cold stress, reduced visibility, and changing ice and road conditions.
• Promote safe work practices for personnel operating in remote locations and extreme temperatures.
• Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions, and follow up on corrective actions.
• Maintain accurate safety documentation, inspection reports, training records, and incident statistics.
• Work collaboratively with site management, subcontractors, and field personnel to address safety concerns and improve performance.
• Support emergency preparedness and ensure workers understand applicable emergency response procedures.
