Job summary

Interior Health is seeking multiple casual Relational Security Officers to join their team in locations across the Interior Health region. Casual status means shifts are as-needed and not guaranteed, with hours ranging from 0 to 37.5 per week.

Under the supervision of the Supervisor, Relational Security, officers will patrol buildings and grounds, monitor surveillance equipment, enforce procedures, respond to emergencies, and document incidents to maintain a safe and secure workplace.

Responsibilities

• Patrols buildings and grounds, including CCTV; enforces regulations and security procedures; identifies risks and hazards; secures doors, windows, entrances.
• Responds to emergencies such as fire or aggressive patients; assesses situation; consults with medical staff; takes appropriate action.
• Investigates, resolves and reports disturbances; documents incidents per Protection Services procedures.
• Provides security for patients and staff; offers escorts as required; responds to requests for assistance.
• Participates in photo identification and access control programs; updates database information.
• Operates photo ID, access control, CCTV and other security systems.
• Performs pre/post flight safety inspections of heliports following departmental procedures.
• Liaises with fire, police and community officials regarding security protocol, incidents and investigations.
• Maintains a daily log of events and prepares detailed reports.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Summary

In accordance with the established vision and values of the organization and under the supervision of the Supervisor, Relational Security, the Relational Security Officer maintains and enforces security of persons and property in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Typical Duties And Responsibilities

• Patrols buildings and grounds, including utilizing computerized surveillance equipment and video monitoring systems. Enforces regulations and security procedures. Identifies risks, safety and security hazards and takes appropriate action. Checks doors, windows and entrances, securing same to prevent unauthorized entrance by others.
• Responds to emergencies such as the Interior Health Disaster Plan, fire, and physically aggressive patients; assesses the situation, consults with medical staff and others, and takes appropriate action as required.
• Investigates, resolves and reports disturbances utilizing non-violent interventions. Documents and reports incidents in accordance with established Protection Services procedures.
• Provides security for Interior Health patients, as requested by the patient care team, to maintain a safe and orderly workplace. Provides security escort for staff and patients as required. Responds to requests for assistance from staff, patients and the public.
• Participates in photo identification and security system programs through methods such as taking staff photos, card access information and entering database information.
• Utilizes and operates photo identification, access control, CCTV and other security system programs.
• Provides pre/post flight safety inspections of heliports following appropriate departmental procedures.
• Liaises with fire, police and other related community officials regarding fire and security protocol, response, incidents and investigations per department guidelines.
• Maintains a daily log of events and prepares detailed reports.
