Job summary

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Rehabilitation Assistant in Richmond Hospital's Rehabilitation Services team. You will work under supervision to implement OT/PT activities, demonstrate techniques, adapt devices, and support patients in daily living skills, while coordinating with therapists and volunteers.

Qualifications include completion of a recognized Rehabilitation Assistant program and strong communication and organizational abilities.

Job description

Come work as a Rehabilitation Assistant with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as part of Richmond Hospital's Rehabilitation Services team.

Within the context of a patient/client/resident and family centred care model and in accordance with established vision and values of the organization, this position functions under the operational supervision of the Program Manager, the practice supervision of the Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy Practice Coordinators and the work direction of designated occupational therapist and physiotherapist, in coordination with the other interdisciplinary team members to carry out established rehabilitative activities in both occupational therapy (OT) and physiotherapy (PT) scopes of practice. Responsibilities include receiving assignments and implementing lower risk interventions related to the clinical aspects of OT/PT care plans, demonstrating and teaching activities, adapting devices to enable patients/clients/residents to maximize their potential for independence, providing functional direction to patient/client/residents and family, and assisting with practicing daily living skills. Reports relevant observations of patient/client/resident progress and behaviours, provides direction to volunteers, organizes and cleans equipment and supplies for activities, and maintains established inventory of supplies.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
