Job summary

Douglas College’s Social Work Department invites applications for a part-time probationary faculty member to begin in the 2026-2027 academic year. You will teach undergraduate students and practicum courses, plan learning activities, and provide academic guidance in a collaborative, learner-centred environment.

Qualifications

Regular Probationary Faculty - Social Work

Salary Range: $76,222.00 – $122,141.00 per annum. Placement on the faculty salary scale is based on education, professional certification and experience and will be in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

The Opportunity

The Department of Social Work is seeking a part‑time probationary faculty member to begin in the 2026-2027 academic year. We are looking for an outstanding candidate who has a wide range of knowledge and expertise in social work. You will instruct undergraduate students and others in the Social Work Department, Faculty of Applied Community Studies. Instructors typically teach both academic and practicum courses.

You will instruct students, facilitate learning and evaluate student progress in the Social Work program. You will plan, organize and manage learning activities and resources, provide academic advice to learners and maintain high quality learner‑centred instruction. Additional duties include building and taking part in community committees and initiatives, as well as active participation in department, faculty, and college‑wide committees.

To be Successful in this Role you Will Need:

• A PhD in Social Work or related discipline.
• A minimum of three years of professional social work practice experience.
• Demonstrated understanding of the experiences of Indigenous and racialized communities through lived, professional, community, or scholarly experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous worldviews, ways of knowing, anti‑colonial and decolonizing approaches, and respectful engagement with Indigenous peoples and communities.
• Demonstrated effective interpersonal and cooperative team skills.
• Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated self‑direction, initiative and creativity.
• Interest and/or proficiency in technology using an online‑based teaching and learning platform.
• Expertise in one or more of the following areas: Race, Ethnicity and Culture in Social Work; Indigenous Families and Communities; Research Methods.
• Experience teaching applied knowledge and skills to post‑secondary students is considered an asset.
• Experience in curriculum development is considered an asset.

Additional Information

The Social Work Department offers a Bachelors degree in Social Work ( BSW ), designed to prepare students to work in a wide range of social work fields. Our BSW program is recognized as an innovative program with a strong academic and research‑based curriculum that includes numerous opportunities for experiential learning. Graduates of the degree program are career‑ready upon completion, with some choosing to further their education by pursuing graduate‑level studies. The Social Work Program prepares students to meet the eligibility requirements for registration as Social Workers in the Province of British Columbia.

In this role you will have the following responsibilities:

Teaching:

1. Prepare course materials.

2. Develop and maintain high quality professional teaching relationships with students to support their progress.

3. Facilitate student learning in face to face, online and hybrid courses.

4. Utilize transparent measures of evaluation to monitor student progress.

5. Provide formative feedback to students (written & verbal).

6. Provide learner‑centered supervision for student practicum experiences (requires travel to practicum sites).

Departmental Engagement:

1. Work collaboratively within the department to ensure high quality curriculum in response to evolving needs.

2. Work collaboratively within Faculty and College‑wide committees.

3. Develop and foster community partnerships and initiatives for community engagement.

4. Demonstrate commitment and currency in the Social Work field through community engagement, research and practice.
