Reporting to the Supervisor, Health Programs, the Registration Clerk serves as the first point of contact for patients, visitors, and hospital staff, accurately registering patients and providing clear, courteous information. As part of a multidisciplinary team, the clerk supports efficient, high-quality care for Nunavut residents through duties such as verifying health insurance coverage, assigning health record numbers, and registering live births.

Responsibilities

Main responsibilities for the Registration Clerk include:

  • Act as the registrar for all patients attending the Health Centre/Hospital
  • Performs the admitting function for patients and registration function for day surgery patients (if applicable)
  • To provide central communications services by directing patients and visitors to the appropriate area or provide information of a general nature and liaises with medical boarding home for patient pick-up and with security for essential staff transportation services (if applicable)
  • Answering/transferring incoming calls promptly and professionally
  • Operates and regularly test hospital public address and paging systems to communicate urgent calls, general announcements, and emergencies in accordance with established procedures.
Qualifications

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a High School Diploma with six months of related office experience. The completion of medical terminology courses is an asset. This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in Inuktitut and English is required for the position. The ability to communicate in French is an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
