As a government, we are strengthening our unique model of governance - one that integrates Inuit societal values, promotes use of the Inuktut language, achieves a representative public service, and collaborates with partners to achieve the promise of Nunavut. Successful applicants will enjoy a competitive salary, medical and dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan, relocation privileges and opportunities for training and career advancement.

The Department of Health is responsible for health services and social programming in Nunavut. Staff at the Department of Health work to improve the health and well‑being of Nunavummiut by addressing the differing needs of each community through culturally appropriate programs and services.

Reporting to the Territorial Health Education Manager, the Clinical Nurse Educator works with nursing service managers to identify nursing competencies in all areas of nursing services (medical, surgical, pediatric, obstetric, emergency, ambulatory, operating room nursing services), assisting managers with the assessment of nursing practices, identifying learning needs, providing clinical expertise, and teaching and/or coordinating teaching orientation.

Other Responsibilities for the Clinical Nurse Educator
  • Developing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating the orientation program for all hospital nursing staff;
  • Developing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating clinical instruction programs for advanced nursing skills and required re‑certifications; and
  • Coordinating clinical placements for nursing students and other learners within the hospital.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a bachelor’s degree in nursing, with a minimum of three years of broad‑based clinical nursing experience. Recognized advanced nursing skills in obstetrics, pediatrics, and critical care/emergency nursing are required. Assets include: Formal training in adult education or clinical teaching methodologies; Previous experience as a clinical educator or preceptor; Instructor certifications such as CPR, NRP, BCLS, ACLS, BTLS, PALS (or equivalents). Candidates must be eligible to register with CANNN.

This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check, is required.

Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position. We encourage you to apply if you have equivalent years of education and/or experience equal to the education and experience requirements listed above.

For full‑time, permanent nurses, recruitment bonuses include: $5,000 on start date, $5,000 at 18 months of service and $10,000 at 30 months of service. Additional premium includes a $375 Monthly Retention Bonus of $4,500 per year.

  • Government of Nunavut employees serving a probationary period must obtain and provide written authorization from the deputy head of their employing department. The authorization from the deputy head must accompany your application for it to be considered.
  • Possession of a criminal record may not disqualify candidates from being considered. An assessment of the criminal record will be measured against the scope and duties of the position. This is only a requirement for positions that require a satisfactory criminal record or vulnerable sector check.
  • Applicants may submit their resume in any of the Official Languages of Nunavut.
