This employment opportunity is restricted to Nunavut Inuit who reside in Cambridge Bay only.

Reporting to the Manager Support Services, the Dietary Aide works in collaboration with the cook, nursing and nutrition staff to provide nutrition for patients in a clean and safe environment. The position is responsible for preparing and serving appropriate and safe food and beverages to patients. The position is responsible for ensuring that the cafeteria and kitchen are cleaned and maintained in accordance with regulations, policies and departmental procedures.

The Dietary Aide delivers meals and snacks to patients admitted to the hospital and is a key member of the health care team. The position also ensures that the food service department is clean and presented to the general public in a way that is representative of a hospital that meets Accreditation Council Standards.

As a front-line staff for infection control, the Dietary Aide ensures that the principle of food safety, infection control and cross contamination are strictly adhered to.

The successful incumbent will have a minimum of Grade 6 education and the ability to interpret Health Facility/Department policies and procedures and implement them; and the ability to use cleaning equipment safely and effectively, thus good communications skills are essential to work with other department, in addition, demonstrate willingness to take on other assigned duties as delegated by the supervisor.

This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
