Job description

The College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO) is the regulatory body responsible for overseeing the profession of occupational therapy in the province of Ontario. Operating under the authority of Ontario’s Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991, and the Occupational Therapy Act, 1991, the College protects the public by ensuring the public’s right to safe, competent and ethical care by occupational therapists. Funded solely through registrant fees, the College fulfils this mandate by setting requirements to practice occupational therapy, establishing standards, policies and programs that every occupational therapist must follow, and holding Ontario’s regulated occupational therapists accountable for their conduct and practice.

COTO is seeking an exceptional leader with a deep and unquestioned commitment to serving the public interest as its next Registrar & Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Registrar & CEO is accountable for the daily operations of the College, including management of all resources. Responsible for enhancing the ways in which the public is protected, the Registrar & CEO provides sound stewardship of the College, working closely with the team to deliver and foster best practices in registration, quality assurance, human resources, and financial management. Ensuring that practice, programs, and services are in compliance with professional and practice obligations, the Registrar & CEO provides leadership to College programs and staff related to operations, the Board’s strategic directions and on emerging issues in the practice of occupational therapy provincially, nationally and internationally.

As the ideal candidate, you are an effective administrator with a modern approach to leadership and demonstrated success fostering collaborations and positive relationships. Leveraging superior communication and management skills, you establish strong relationships with diverse stakeholders and thrive in a complex, changing environment that is subject to public scrutiny. You have insight into system change, health care regulation, and interprofessional collaboration. You have experience in governance and in creating organizational structures needed to support operational efficiencies. You bring the educational and experiential qualifications appropriate for a leadership role in an organization focused on the protection of the public.
