Job summary

Extendicare is seeking a part-time Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to enhance nursing practice in its Ottawa-area long-term care homes. You will observe and record vital signs, assist in assessments, and support care plan development while maintaining established standards and physician orders.

The role requires current Ontario certification, registration or eligibility, and a commitment to working with seniors.

Qualifications

  • Current certificate of competence from the approved institutions for the province (Ontario).
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with the approved institutions for the province (Ontario).
  • Previous supervisory experience in long-term care preferred.
  • Experience dealing with the cognitively impaired.
  • Knowledge of nursing and health care practices, including infection control.
  • Commitment to working with seniors.
  • Strong verbal and written communication; active listening with a friendly demeanour.
  • Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources to solve problems.
  • Strong organizational, planning, time management and multitasking skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure care is provided according to established nursing standards and physicians’ orders, and observe, record vital signs and conditions.
  • Assist in assessing residents, develop and evaluate care plans; monitor health and refer to doctors when needed.
