Job summary

Extendicare Tecumseh is seeking a part-time Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to enhance daily nursing practice in a 128-bed LTC setting. You will ensure care adheres to standards, observe vital signs, and document changes per physician orders and policies.

You will assist in assessing residents, developing and updating care plans, and monitor health status with needed referrals. A supportive team, mentorship, and comprehensive benefits accompany this role.

Qualifications

• Certificate of competence from Approved Institutions for Ontario.
• Registration with the Approved Institutions for Ontario.
• Managerial experience in long-term care or community homecare preferred.
• Experience with cognitively impaired residents.
• Infection control knowledge and nursing best practices.
• Commitment to working with seniors.
• Clear written and verbal communication; friendly demeanor.
• Ability to synthesize information and problem solve.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.

Extendicare Tecumseh is a 128 bed LTC home. The RPN will enhance the effective management and quality of nursing practice daily in keeping with the standards and expectations set out by governing bodies and internal policies and standards of care.

What you’ll be doing

• Ensure care is provided with established nursing standards and principles, physicians’ orders and administrative policies, as well as, observe, report and record vital signs, symptoms and conditions of residents / patients. Assure observance of required techniques in nursing care
• Assist in assessing patients/residents and develop, implement, review and evaluate care plans. Monitor health, notes changes in condition and assess need for referral to doctors; processes and implement physicians’ orders

What you bring

• Appropriate current certificate of competence from the Approved Institutions for the province
• Registration or eligible for registration with the Approved Institutions for the province
• Previous managerial experience in long-term care or community homecare preferred
• Experience dealing with the cognitively impaired
• Comprehensive knowledge of nursing and health care practices, as well as Knowledge in Infection Control Practices
• Demonstrated commitment to working with seniors
• Ability to present information clearly and effectively both verbally whether in person or over the phone, and in writing; an active listener who projects a friendly demeanor
• Ability to collect and use information to thoroughly think through problems and situations; puts information from various sources together to see the 'big picture' and generate creative solutions
• Organizational, planning, time management and multi-tasking skills
