Job summary

Royal Ottawa Health Care Group seeks to support individuals with concurrent disorders through inpatient and telemedicine nursing care. Practices are tailored to each client’s goals, emphasizing therapeutic relationships and collaborative care.

The role requires RN/LPN-level nursing, registration with the CNO, and ongoing professional development. Priority is given to safe, compassionate care within a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a recognized Diploma Program in Practical Nursing.
• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
• Knowledge of CNO Standards regarding RPN scope of practice.
• Understanding of MHA and relevant legislation.
• CPR/AED Certification within the last 2 years.
• Prevention of Violence in the Workplace training (CPI) required.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development.
• Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care for clients with concurrent disorders in inpatient and telemedicine settings.
• Develop therapeutic relationships with patients and work within the inter-disciplinary team.
• Perform physical and mental health assessments and administer medications as prescribed.
• Maintain documentation and adhere to professional standards.

About the Program

This program provides inpatient and telemedicine services for individuals dealing with both substance use and mental health conditions (concurrent disorders). Services are tailored to each client’s goals and include self-referrals, making care more accessible.

Qualifications

• Graduate of recognized Diploma Program in Practical Nursing;
• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Knowledge of CNO Standards regarding RPN scope of practice.
• Understanding of MHA and relevant legislation.
• CPR/AED Certification within the last 2 years.
• Completion of Prevention of Violence in the Workplace training (C.P.I.) required.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development
• Technical skills such as glucometer reading, vital signs, injection skills, physical assessment/mental health assessment, catheterization, medication administration, O2 administration, basic wound care, suctioning, safe patient handling, bladder scanning, ECT recovery, skin care and feeding
• Ability to develop therapeutic relations with patients
• Ability to function as a member of the inter-disciplinary team
• Basic computer skills required

Preferred:

• Two years recent experience in psychiatric/mental health nursing
• Knowledge and experience working with individuals with substance use disorders (identifying signs and symptoms of withdrawal or intoxication from substance use)
• Experience facilitating groups
• Experience working with patients with concurrent disorders
• Current knowledge of mechanical lifts, transferring and positions techniques

Language Requirements

English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, comprehension, reading and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset
