Job summary

University Health Network (UHN) is seeking a Temporary Full-Time Registered Practical Nurse for the Multi Organ Transplant Unit at Toronto General Hospital. You will report to the Nurse Manager and provide care for transplant recipients and living donors in a fast-paced environment.

Ideal candidates hold current RPN registration in Ontario, BCLS certification, and at least 1 year of medical/surgical experience with transplant experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Current Registration as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) certification
• Minimum one (1) year general medical/surgical experience required
• Excellent interpersonal and decision making skills
• Previous transplant nursing experience preferred
• Membership in the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario preferred

Responsibilities

• Transplant unit provides care to new solid organ transplant recipients and readmissions
• Supports living donors and pre-transplant patients; collaborates with the transplant team to ensure high standard of care

Position Summary:

Organ transplants are a life-saving treatment for patients with organ failure involving the heart, liver, lung, kidney, pancreas, islet or small bowel. The Multi Organ Transplant Unit provides care to new solid organ transplant recipients and those requiring readmission for related health issues, living donors and pre-transplant liver failure patients. Our internationally renowned Multi Organ Transplant Program serves Toronto, as well as Ontario, Canada and the international community. A talented team of physicians, surgeons, nurses and other allied health professionals makes UHN a leader in transplantation worldwide. With specialists in clinical care, diagnosis, research and support services, our high standard of care rivals any other.

Qualifications

• ADDITIONAL SKILLS: Authorization/certification, care and maintenance in the following: immunosuppressive drug therapy, TPN, PCA, Accuchek, capping off central lines, venipuncture, IV therapy, Peritoneal Dialysis, accessing hemodialysis lines, removal of central lines.
