St. Joseph’s Health System in Hamilton seeks an experienced Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) for the 7 Surgical Inpatient Unit.

This part-time role supports acute surgical care, including orthopaedics and urology, with day and night shifts across a rotating schedule. The successful candidate will hold an Ontario PN credential with IV medication administration and an IV meds certificate, plus recent surgical inpatient experience and current BCLS/HCP certification.

Qualifications

• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario required.
• Education in one of the below categories: a) PN diploma with IV meds; b) PN diploma with IV meds certificate if not in basic curriculum; c) PN certificate with meds and IV meds certificates.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to promote health and assess care needs.
• Collaborate with RPN and RN to ensure safe and effective care.
• Recognize changes in acuity and consult with RN for next steps.
• Demonstrate transfers and lifts knowledge and ability.
• Maintain documentation and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
• Basic computer use: MS Word, internet searches, data entry and patient information systems.

Specialty surgical procedures include those of orthopaedic and urological perspective. Our highly skilled and dedicated interdisciplinary health professional team work collaboratively to provide care for patients in order to help restore and maintain function as quickly and safely as possible.Position SummaryThe Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) provides nursing care for clients to promote health and assess need for provision of care and treatment of health conditions by supportive preventive therapeutic palliative and rehabilitation means in order to attain or maintain optimal function. The RPN role models professional values beliefs and attributes and practices in accordance with the SJHH mission and values policies and procedures and College of Nurses Standards and Guidelines. A high level of collaboration between RPN and RN is required to ensure safe and effective care. The RPN provides care for less complex clients whose outcomes are more predictable and risk for negative outcomes is low.
