Job summary

Royal Victoria Reginal Health Centre in Barrie, Ontario seeks a Registered Practical Nurse to provide comprehensive care in the Emergency Department. You will work with physicians, RNs, and allied professionals to assess and treat adult and pediatric patients in a fast-paced setting.

Ideal candidates hold an RPN diploma, current CNO registration, CC1 within six months, and at least two years of emergency or acute care nursing experience.

Qualifications

• Registered Practical Nurse in Ontario with full scope.
• Two years’ experience in emergency or acute medical/surgical nursing preferred.
• CC1 (Coronary Care 1) within six months of hire and valid CNO registration.

Responsibilities

Royal Victoria Reginal Health Centre (RVH) serves the community of Simcoe County and provides highly specialized services including but not limited to: Stroke, Cardiac, Oncology, Neonatal Intensive Care, Adult & Youth Mental Health, and has been recently designated as a Level III Trauma Centre. We also serve our local community for emergency care services that sees approximately 90,000 unique patient visits per year. RVH is undergoing significant growth, including a capital plan that will see the current North Campus on Georgian Drive double in size over the next ten years, while developing the new South Campus in Innisfil.

As a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) you will function interdependently and collaboratively with members of the multidisciplinary team, that includes but not limited to: Physicians, Registered Nurses, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Geriatric Registered Nurses, Patient Care Assistants, and Phlebotomists. As the RPN you assess the needs of adult and pediatric patients requiring care in the Emergency Department, while ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors. You are a professional caregiver who is responsible and accountable for providing quality patient care within a delivery model in accordance with the philosophy, policies and standards of care of RVH, the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and all relevant legislation.

As a qualified candidate you will need have the following job requirements:

• Registered Practical Nursing diploma or equivalent education to practice at full scope.
• Current Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Coronary Care 1 (CC1) (obtained within six (6) Months of hire)
• Two (2) years’ experience in emergency or acute medical/surgical nursing preferred.
• Sound knowledge of nursing process and responsibilities of profession.
• Membership in professional association specific to nursing service area.
• Functions independently within scope of practice and three factor framework as outlined by the CNO.
