Job description

Overview

Registered Nurses possess a defined body of advanced knowledge, clinical skills, procedural skills, and professional attitudes, which are directed to effective patient and family-centered care. In serving as the leader of the Coordinated Care Team, Registered Nurses have a pivotal role in care planning, coordination, and delivery, ensuring high-level functioning of the healthcare team. RNs apply both their clinical knowledge and leadership skills to collect and interpret information, make appropriate nursing decisions, and carry out therapeutic interventions. Their care is characterized by up-to-date, ethical, resource-efficient clinical practice, effective communication, and partnership with patients, families, and other healthcare providers.

Education
  • Registered Nurse with current Certificate of Registration issued by the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Recent BLS certification required.
  • Completion of components of the critical care course such as Introduction to ICU, Advanced Health Assessment, and Cardiology 1 or equivalent.
Qualifications
  • At least two (2) years of recent surgical nursing experience within the last 3 years.
  • Completion of the Coordinated Care Team training.
  • Certification in IV/Blood Procurement, Patient Controlled Analgesia (peripheral and epidural), TPN/Central Line Management, Ostomy Management/Teaching, and Complex Wound Care Management.
  • Specialty knowledge in care and management of surgical sub-specialties including GI, nephrology, gynecology, plastics, orthopaedics, ENT, and thoracic surgery.
  • Willingness to work across all areas of the Surgery Health Service.
  • Motivation to pursue educational goals.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Capability to implement care plans independently and interdependently.
  • Participation in unit quality initiatives, including workload data collection.
  • Understanding of accountability-based practice.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good work and attendance record.
  • Adherence to legislated practices under the Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario.
  • Commitment to maintaining a culture of patient and staff safety and protecting psychological health and safety.
